  7. -------------
  8. This is v1.07 of the Viper SE Install/Utilities/Drivers disk set.
  9.  
  10.  
  11. AutoCAD 12 Installation Notes
  12. -----------------------------------
  13. (DL-Xpress for Weitek Corp v3.0.9 by Vibrant Graphics).
  14.  
  15. 1.  Insert Disk 1 "Installation/Utilities & AutoCAD drivers" into your 
  16.     floppy drive.
  17. 2.  Run GO from DOS prompt.
  18. 3.  Select ACAD menu. 
  19. 4.  Select ACAD R12.
  20. 5.  GO will install the drivers into C:\ACAD.
  21. 4.  It will prompt for location of ACADR12.BAT.
  22. 5.  GO will add environment variables into ACADR12.BAT.
  23.     SET ACADDRV=C:\ACAD\DRV
  24.     SET RDPADI=C:\ACAD\DRV
  25.     SET VIBCFG=C:\ACAD\DRV
  26.  
  27. To configure AutoCAD R12:
  28.  
  29. 1.  Change to the root directory of your hard disk.
  30. 2.  Run ACADR12 -r.
  31. 3.  Select 3 to Configure Video Display.
  32. 4.  Select DL-Xpress for Weitek Corp v3.0.9 by Vibrant Graphics from the 
  33.     available video displays.
  34. 5.  DL-Xpress Display Screen Configuration menu will be displayed.
  35. 6.  Press YES to change video selection.
  36. 7.  Select desired resolution/colors.
  37. 8.  Select Single or Dual screen.
  38. 9.  Test mode.
  39. 10. Select Yes or No for Custom Configuration.
  40. 11. Press NO to change video selection to return to ACAD.
  41.  
  42.  * If you do not have DL-Xpress as a listed option then
  43.    you may not have your AutoCAD enviroment variables set properly
  44.    or you are out of environment space.  Please refer to your
  45.    AutoCAD manual for troubleshooting techniques.
  46.  
  47.  * Your refresh mode is set by using VPROMODE.  If you have not
  48.    already done so please run the DOS program C:\VIPERPRO\VPROMODE and
  49.    configure your monitor properly.

  52. DOS Utilities Installation Notes
  53. --------------------------------
  54.  
  55. 1.  Insert Disk 1 "Installation/Utilities & AutoCAD drivers" into your 
  56.     floppy drive.
  57. 2.  Run GO at the DOS prompt.
  58. 3.  Select source drive.
  59. 4.  Under the Utilities menu, select VPROMODE.EXE and it will be copied to 
  60.     C:\VIPERPRO (by default).
  61. 5.  VPROMODE.EXE will then need to be executed to configure Viper SE.
  62.     (Refer to Utilites section for further instructions).
  63.  
  64.  
  65.  Utilities
  66.  ---------
  67.  
  68.  VPROMODE.EXE is a command line and menu driven mode and monitor setting
  69.  utility.  Use VPROMODE.EXE to configure the Viper SE for your particular
  70.  monitor, select a text display mode, and to run Viper SE diagnostics.
  71.  VPROMODE saves monitor timing information to the P9X00RES.DAT file.
  72.  
  73.  To center your monitor:
  74.  1.  Change directory to C:\VIPERPRO.
  75.  2.  Run VPROMODE at the DOS prompt.
  76.  3.  Select Monitor in the menu.
  77.  4.  Scroll down to CUSTOM.
  78.  5.  Select mode and center the screen.
  79.  6.  After centering, press <ESCAPE> twice.
  80.  7.  Press <ENTER> to save new configuration.
  81.  
  82.  When you install VPROMODE.EXE, the environment variable 
  83.  P9X00RESDAT.ENV=C:\VIPERPRO will be set in the AUTOEXEC.BAT file. 
  84.  
  85.  VPROPM.EXE is a DOS Display Power Managment driver.  Please refer to
  86.  VPROPM.DOC for additional information and instalation information.

  89. AutoCAD R10/386 and R11 Installation Notes
  90. ------------------------------------------
  91. (DL-Xpress for Weitek Corp v3.0.9 by Vibrant Graphics).

  93. 1.  Insert Disk 1 "Installation/Utilities & AutoCAD drivers" into your 
  94.     floppy drive.
  95. 2.  Run GO from DOS prompt.
  96. 3.  Select CAD menu.  
  97. 4.  Select ACAD R10/386 and R11.
  98. 5.  GO will install the drivers into C:\ACAD.
  99. 6.  It will create VPROACAD.BAT with following environment variables:
  100.     SET DSPADI=C:\ACAD\RCDLX152.EXP
  101.     SET VIBCFG=C:\ACAD\DL152309.CFG
  102. 7.  AUTOEXEC.BAT will be updated.
  103.  
  104. To configure AutoCAD R10/386 and R11:   
  105.  
  106. 1.  Run ACAD.
  107. 2.  Select 5 for "Configure AutoCAD."
  108. 3.  Select 3 for "Configure video display."
  109. 4.  Select "ADI P386 v4.0/4.1 display."
  110. 5.  Select Yes to Change video selections.
  111. 6.  Select mode desired.
  112. 7.  Setup custom configuration.
  113. 8.  Run ACAD as normal.
  114.  
  115. Please refer to the APATCH.DOC file for instructions on how to use 
  116. APATCH.EXE (AutoDesk bug patch).
  117.  
  118. AutoShade w/Renderman 2.0
  119. -------------------------
  120. 1.  Insert Disk 1 "Installation/Utilities & AutoCAD drivers" into your 
  121.     floppy drive.
  122. 2.  Run GO from DOS prompt.
  123. 3.  Select CAD menu.  
  124. 4.  Select AutoShade w/Renderman 2.0.
  125. 5.  GO will install the drivers into C:\SHADE2.
  126. 6.  It will create VPRSHADE.BAT with following environment variables:
  127.     SET RCPADI=C:\SHADE2\RCDLX152.EXP
  128.     SET RDPADI=C:\SHADE2\RCDLX152.EXP
  129.     SET VIBCFG=C:\SHADE2\DL152309.CFG
  130. 7.  AUTOEXEC.BAT will be updated.
  131.  
  132. To configure AutoShade w/Renderman 2.0:
  133.  
  134. 1.  Run SHADE -r.
  135. 2.  Select pointing device.
  136. 3.  Select display device.
  137. 4.  Selct PADI 386 display driver.
  138. 5.  Select Yes to Change video selections.
  139. 6.  Select mode desired.
  140. 7.  Setup custom configuration.
  141. 8.  Run AutoShade in graphics mode.

  144. 3D Studio version 2.0
  145. ---------------------
  146.  
  147. 1.  Insert Disk 1 "Installation/Utilities & AutoCAD drivers" into your 
  148.     floppy drive.
  149. 2.  Run GO from DOS prompt.
  150. 3.  Select CAD menu.  
  151. 4.  Select 3D Studio v2.0.
  152. 5.  GO will install the drivers into C:\3DS2.
  153. 6.  It will create VPR3DS2.BAT with following environment variables:
  154.     RCPADI=C:\3DS2\RCDLX152.EXP
  155.     RDPADI=C:\3DS2\RCDLX152.EXP
  156.     VIBCFG=C:\3DS2\DL152309.CFG
  157. 7.  GO will modify 3DS.SET file to remove semicolons from following lines to
  158.     configure 3D Studio 2.0.
  159.     RENDER-DISPLAY = RCPADI
  160.     MAIN-DISPLAY = RCPADI
  161.     MATERIAL-DISPLAY = RCPADI
  162. 8.  AUTOEXEC.BAT will be updated.

  165.     Known Limitations
  166.     -----------------
  167.     APATCH.EXE and APATCH.DOC are copied when GO installs CAD drivers.
  168.     AutoPatch repairs some problems with protected mode drivers with the 
  169.     AutoCAD Releases 10 and 11,  as well as 3D Studio version 2.0.  Please
  170.     refer to APATCH.DOC.

  173. Microstation 4.0
  174. ----------------
  175. (Weitek Microstation 4.0 v4.0.3 by Vibrant Graphics).
  176. 1.  Insert Disk 1 "Installation/Utilities & AutoCAD drivers" into your 
  177.     floppy drive.
  178. 2.  Run GO from DOS prompt.
  179. 3.  Select CAD menu.
  180. 4.  Select Microstation 4.0.
  181. 5.  GO will install the drivers into C:\USTATION.
  182. 6.  GO wil create VPUSTA4.BAT with following environment variables:
  183.     SET WTKCFG=C:\USTATION\DRIVERS\WTKCFG.DAT
  184. 7.  AUTOEXEC.BAT will be updated.

  186. To configure Microstation 4.0:
  187. 1.  Run USCONFIG.
  188. 2.  Select to configure for DOS version.
  189. 3.  Select Display Adapters to modify Microstation Configuration.
  190. 4.  Select Weitek Microstation 4.0.
  191. 5.  Select Weitek Power 9100 for Card Selection.
  192. 6.  Select desired resolution/mode.
  193. 7.  Configure other screen options.
  194. 8.  SAVE configuration.
  195. 9.  Configure other Microstation 4.0 options.
  196. 10. EXIT and SAVE.

  205. 2.  Run GO from DOS prompt.
  206. 3.  Select CAD menu.
  207. 4.  Select Microstation 5.0.
  208. 5.  GO will install the drivers into C:\USTATION.
  209. 6.  GO wil create VPUSTA5.BAT with following environment variables:
  210.     SET WTKCFG5=C:\USTATION\DRIVERS\WTKU50.INI
  211. 7.  AUTOEXEC.BAT will be updated.

  227. Viper SE VGA BIOS
  228. ---------------------------
  229. VESA VBE function 07h(Set/Get Display Start) is not supported at this time.
  230. Some applications which supports double buffering or page flipping will not
  231. work properly.  (i.e. Flight Simulator 5.0)

  234. Windows NT
  235. ----------
  236.  
  237. This document is provided to aid the user in installing the Viper SE
  238. Windows NT drivers (rev. 00.00.05 - 06/24/94)
  239.  
  240. Files supplied for use with NT:
  241.  
  242.     DISK1
  243.     OEMSETUP.INF
  244.     P9100.DLL
  245.     P9100.SYS
  246.     P9100RES.DAT
  247.     P91INST.EXE
  248.  
  249. Windows NT Installation:
  250.  
  251. 1. Double click on the Windows NT setup icon (found in the MAIN group)
  252.    to install the Standard VGA driver.
  253.  
  254.     NOTE: If you already installed the Viper SE and you were
  255.           previously using a high resolution driver, you may need
  256.           to install your previous video card to get back to VGA.
  257.           This may be the case if Windows NT does not load, and
  258.           displays a blank or garbaged screen.
  259.  
  260. 2. Once you have Windows NT running in Standard VGA, with the Viper SE
  261.    installed, double click on the Windows NT setup icon
  262.    (found in the MAIN group).
  263.  
  264. 3. From the OPTIONS menu, select CHANGE SYSTEM SETTINGS.
  265.  
  266. 5. Click on the down arrow to the right of the Display: line.
  267.  
  268. 6. Scroll to the bottom of the Windows NT driver list, and select
  269.    Other (Requires a disk from a hardware manufacturer)
  270.  
  271. 7. Place the Viper SE Windows NT disk in a floppy drive, and type in
  272.    the proper drive path.  (e.g. A:\ or B:\)  Click OK.
  273.  
  274.     NOTE: Take into consideration the amount of memory on your
  275.           Viper SE.  Some of the modes supplied are NOT
  276.           supported if the card has only 2MB of video memory.
  277.

  287. 8. Select the resolution and color depth of your choice.
  288.    Be sure to select a resolution and refresh rate that your
  289.    monitor is capable of supporting.
  290.  
  291. 9. Click OK to accept driver.
  292.  
  293. 10. Be sure that the driver is listed on Display: line and Click CLOSE
  294.     to have Windows NT accept the changes.
  295.  
  296. 11. Click NEW to install the new Viper SE driver.
  297.  
  298. 12. Place the Viper SE Windows NT disk in a floppy drive, and type in
  299.     the proper drive path.  (e.g. A:\ or B:\)  Click OK.
  300.  
  301. 13. Files will then be copied from the diskette to the Windows NT
  302.     system.
  303.  
  304. 14. Select a compatible monitor from the list provided.  If your
  305.     monitor does not appear, please select GENERIC.  Click OK to
  306.     accept.
  307.  
  308. 15. From the OPTIONS menu, select EXIT.
  309.  
  310. You must restart Windows NT for the changes to take affect.
  311.  
  312. If after you have installed the driver using the above instructions, and
  313. Windows NT comes up in Standard VGA when restarted, it could be that you
  314. selected a mode that your Viper SE cannot support because it is a 2MB
  315. card, has the Bt DAC, or the refresh rate is to high for your monitor.
  316. Please double check to insure that your system can run the desired
  317. resolution.  If problems persist, you may contact Diamond Technical
  318. Support.

  321.     Known Limitations
  322.     -----------------
  323.     In all 24 Bpp and 32 Bpp modes, an application error will occur in
  324.     Paintbrush.
  325.

  327. * Special Note for VL-BUS users:
  328. --------------------------------
  329.   Default Memory Base Address for Windows NT is 80000000.  Some  
  330.   motherboards do not support this address.  Windows NT will be blank
  331.   screen or lock-up.
  332.   1.  Restore Windows NT to VGA driver.
  333.   2.  Reboot Windows NT.
  334.   3.  Select Last Known Good to VGA.
  335.   4.  Edit P9100RES.DAT file on DISK 1 "Installation/Utilities & AutoCAD driver."
  336.   5.  Modify MemAddr = 8000 to different Memory Base Address.
  337.   6.  Memory Base Addresses available:
